Burglars caught in chase

Two men, from Nyanga and Parow, have been charged for house robbery and possession of stolen property following a mid-morning break-in at a house in Frankfurt Street, Parow, on Thursday February 9.

Parow police spokesman Captain Kevin Williams said the men, aged 34 and 20, were caught with a flat-screen TV.

The men allegedly forced open the sliding door to enter the house. They were spotted in the bedroom by a woman who lives in the house.

She fled the house after a scuffle with the men who tried to force her into the bathroom. Neighbours called the police. The Parow SAPS Crime Prevention Unit patrolling in Sarel Cilliers Street, responded to the call and saw two men walking with a TV.

The men dropped their loot and fled on foot with the cops in hot pursuit. Both were caught and they were set to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.

* Police arrested three young men for robbing a man of his cellphone at Vasco station, on Friday February 10.

Goodwood police spokesman Captain Waynne Theunis said the robbery suspects had fled down Voortrekker Road with the victim giving chase.

Constables Hlonipani Hlumayo and Anthea Millward were patrolling Voortrekker Road when they saw the fleeing suspects.

They arrested one, while his alleged accomplices ran towards Ruyterwacht.

They were later arrested in Elsies River. The cellphone was brought to the police station by the mother of one of the suspects after she found it.

Three accused, aged 17, 19 and 20, appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on a charge of robbery, said Captain Theunis.

Camera footage led to the arrest of four young men for robbing a taxi guard of R2000 on Tuesday February 7.

Goodwood police spokesman Captain Waynne Theunis said the taxi was travelling on Voortrekkker Road, on its way to town, at around 11.50am.

At the corner of Voortrekker Road and Botha Street, it stopped to pick up a passenger, where robbers pounced.

The driver pulled away at a high speed, and the guard fell out of the taxi. The robbers took the money from his pocket as he lay on the ground then jumped into a navy blue SUV and sped off.

Police used camera footage from a nearby shop to get the SUV’s licence number then traced the vehicle to Bishop Lavis where they arrested four suspects and recovered the stolen money.

The suspects, aged from 15 to 20, appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on a charge of robbery.
