Goodwood residents apprehend mugger

Goodwood residents came to the aid of a woman who was mugged in Smart Road, on Tuesday October 11.

Goodwood police spokesman Warrant Officer Waynne Theunis said a man had snatched the woman’s bag and run off.

“Residents responded to her screams of distress and chased after the man and apprehended him. He was later handed over to Goodwood SAPS and the stolen property was returned to the victim,” he said.

A 29-year-old man appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Thursday October 13, facing robbery charges.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man for stealing his neighbour’s power tools.

The Alice Street home’s garage was burgled on Monday October 10, said Warrant Officer Theunis. Later that day, Warrant Officer Kosie van Wyk found the stolen tools at a second-hand dealer.

“He obtained the information of the seller and paid a visit to his home in Goodwood. The suspect was the neighbour of the complainant whose garage was broken into,” said Warrant Officer Theunis.

Police also discovered stolen goods at the second-hand dealer from two previous burglaries in the area. The man appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday October 12, on burglary charges.
