The tree was removed the following day, but it drew looks of dismay from those on their way to Goodwood station, and many stopped to take pictures. Conditions were harsh for homeless people who had to seek shelter against the elements. This homeless man, Vincent van Neel, was found soaking wet and shivering. He apparently slept in this spot opposite JG Meiring High School during the storm. Ambulance personnel picked him up after 3pm on Wednesday June 7. Trees toppled close to the Monte Vista train station on Wednesday June 7. The new fence at Goodwood prison took a beating in the storm as part of the fence, which is being put up by Correctional Services, blew over. The fence is being erected to eventually keep squatters out.
