Water is not ‘free’

Hennie Broodryk, Glenlily, Parow.

I would like to comment on the article (“Restrictions apply to boreholes too,” Northern News February 1) regarding users of borehole and well-point water who get it for “free”.

Our users don’t get it for “free”, as we pay for electricity every time we switch on the pump to extract the water from the ground and it also costs money to put down a borehole or well-point.

Xanthea Limberg must please get her facts right before she comments on borehole and well-point water.

The only “free” water you can get is rain water if you can catch it in a container.

The Northern News sent this letter to the City for a response, but Ms Limberg’s office said she did not wish to respond.
