10 years of music during Women’s Month

To honour a decade-long career during a month of celebrating women, Claire Phillips presents It’s Been A While, an intimate, semi-acoustic, stripped-down collection of sensual songs; as they were originally composed.

Hosted by and featuring Afrikaans rapper, Jitsvinger, they will perform for two nights at the Garden Court Theatre in Walmer Estate on Saturday and Sunday August 6 and 7.

It’s Been A While, sees Claire challenging herself to recollect moments of creativity when it was just herself and her guitar, writing songs that would eventually make their way onto stages and into people’s hearts.

It represents her struggle as an unconventional artist and woman who continues to defy the standard perception of what a pop artist should look and sound like. As a young, gay, coloured female and self-taught musician from Belhar, Claire’s entry onto the music scene in 2006 was paved with challenges.

However, she quickly made a name for herself on the independent live music circuit and her debut solo album, Say My Name, earned her a SAMA.

Her second album, By Request, was also well received and Claire is in the process of completing her third album, some of which can be heard at this show, including the lead single, Holding On.

The show starts at 6pm and tickets, at R180, are available from Computicket. Garden Court Theatre is situated off Nelson Mandela Boulevard, on the corner of Melbourne and Coronation roads, Walmer Estate. Parking is available.
