Fairbairn College pupil wins bronze at Olympiad

The South African team, Bronson Rudner, Laurens Weyn, Yaseen Mowzer and Ulrik de Muelenaere.

Two young South African programmers, Yaseen Mowzer and Ulrik de Muelenaere were awarded bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2016.

Yaseen, is a Grade 12 pupil at Fairbairn College in Goodwood and is eligible to compete in the IOI in 2017 again. Ulrik, from Pretoria, completed matric last year at Waterkloof High School in Pretoria.

IOI is a annual competition that sees some of the brightest young computer programmers in the world compete against each other. This year, the contest was held in Kazan, Russia, and programmers from 86 countries took part.

The four members of the South African team were all finalists in the 2015 Standard Bank Programming Olympiad who qualified for the international team after additional training. The team comprised Yaseen; Ulrik; Bronson Rudner, a Grade 12 SACS pupil, and Laurens Weyn, who completed matric at Abbotts College in Century City last year.

The team leaders were Robert Spencer and Robin Visser, both past Standard Bank Programming Olympiad winners and international participants.
