The untimely death of journalist Heidi Holland will be painfully felt throughout our country.
Holland was an exceptional journalist: lucid in her writing, penetrating in her insights and principled in the positions she took. She had a formidable ability to open up to her readers the inner workings of the subjects she dissected.
Her books on the ANC and Africa, as well as her masterly Dinner with Mugabe, remain staples for those seeking to make sense of the world and the times in which we live. She did not always agree with the DA – but this is the nature of a democratic society. And criticism from someone of her calibre was in a real sense a compliment.
We will miss her. The DA expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to all Holland’s family and friends.
