FM 5 DJ Euphonik will remain on air despite appearing in court over charges of assault.

Euphonik, whose real name is Themba Nkosi, and his ex-girlfriend Bonang Matheba’s domestic troubles were taken to a new level on Thursday when the radio and TV presenter dragged her former lover to court. Charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and malicious damage to property were put to Nkosi at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

5FM spokesperson Jared Orlin confirmed that Nkosi would remain on air until the legal process had been completed.

“The matter is being resolved via the legal process and until such time as the matter has reached finality, Euphonik will remain on air.”

The Sunday World newspaper reported that an argument erupted between the celebrity couple while they were at Nkosi’s home in Westdene, Joburg. Matheba later left the house and went back to her apartment in Hyde Park.

Nkosi followed her, but found the door to her house locked. He allegedly entered through the window.

It is also alleged that when he got inside, he slapped Matheba around and kicked her. Matheba was eventually rescued by neighbours.

The Sunday World also revealed that Matheba shot a 3rd Degree programme last Friday heavily plastered with make-up to hide a blue eye.

Following the reports, Nkosi released a statement, via his publicist, in which he expressed his desire to clear his name.

“I was shocked to see the allegations of assault levelled against me in the tabloids,” said Nkosi.

“Those allegations are not true and I am seeking legal advice to clear my name.”

“I will take the matter to court if necessary. Woman abuse is a serious crime and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

Nkosi presented himself to the Bramley police station on Wednesday. He will appear in court on July 3.
