Johannesburg - US President Barack Obama and his entourage have again booked out the Radisson Blu hotel in Sandton so the American first family can attend Nelson Mandela’s funeral on December 15.
Six floors at the Radisson were booked out when president Obama was last there. He stayed in room 2301 in the penthouse on floor 23. The suite was occupied only by the president and his family, while his staff stayed on floors 18 to 22, a source told Independent Newspapers.
The source said Obama’s security staff stripped and removed all fittings in the penthouse, including the carpet and pictures on the walls, then moved to the bathroom where they replaced the toilet seats and bathtub.
“They also replaced our bulletproof window with their own.”
Several police riot vehicles with uniformed police and sniffer dogs should be expected to sweep the building.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said the Obamas would participate in several memorial events. – Rabbie Serumula and Sapa
