CANNY CAST: So What Season 2 cast members Simon Clarke, Moloko McKenzie, Kenny Kunene and Gayton McKenzie.
W hile at the screening of the second season premiere of So What, Kenny chatted to us about the show, his grooming habits, clothes and the GQ Best Dressed List.
What’s different about So What this season?
People were complaining that they kept seeing parties, houses and cars and not seeing where we got the money from. We see that they still don’t get that we’re hard- working businessmen who play hard, so we’ll be showing more of our business deals on the show. From our international travels and business to us having fun around the world.
Last season the show featured current events. Are you doing the same this year?
Yes. You know from our last interview that I love commenting on current issues that SA is facing. It adds an interesting angle to the show, plus it always keeps me in the news!
Will you feature your family?
If it happens that we shoot an episode where they feature, then that’s that, but there’s no plan that we have to have them in the show. But not more than last season.
So you’re always immaculately groomed – do you do facials, manicures and pedicures?
I don’t do those things. Maybe a pedicure, but manicures and facials are not my style. I still use Vaseline for my face, it’s a tried and tested product. I do buy those fancy lotions and gels whenever my face needs to be rejuvenated.
You had that weight loss challenge on your show last year. Did you lose the weight?
Yes, I did. I gained it back, though. Blame it on December food. I now weigh 90-something kilos. I weighed about 85kg when I finished the challenge. I’m going to do it again because I gain and lose weight easily. Give me two weeks and I’ll be back in shape.
You’re almost always in a suit and I’ve never seen you repeat one?
I have a tailor, but I also buy most of my suits. I don’t have time for fittings.
Why do you wear two watches?
People always think it’s about me showing off – well, that’s part of the reason – but mainly it’s because I have international business interests and that means I must know the different time zones every time I check my watch. There’s nothing as insensitive as calling someone while they are sleeping.
Why haven’t we seen you on GQ’s best dressed list?
I don’t care about awards and all these things. They are subjective and I don’t think that I care enough for someone to judge the way I dress and tell me that I’m one of the best- dressed men.
