Johannesburg - Grammy Award winning rapper and music producer Timbaland is coming to South Africa.

The top ranked producer in the world will perform a one-night only concert in Joburg, with a number of other international and local artists, on June 7.

The US rapper will also be doing a remix of one of his tracks with a South African artist on stage.

This is not the first time that Timbaland has performed here – his last visit was in 2011 when he performed at the ZarFest with R&B star Ciara, rapper Fat Joe, Lil Kim and DJ Scratch.

Timbaland, who was acclaimed as Billboard Magazine’s “song writer of the decade” in 2011, said he was excited to be returning.

“I like to venture outside where I come from (Virginia, New York). For me going to South Africa is a big statement, not just for the country but even for me personally,” Timbaland said.

For more than 20 years, Timothy “Timbaland” Mosley’s innovative sound has redefined how the world experiences music.

He has created countless number one hits and collaborated with the globe’s biggest music stars, including Madonna, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, and Keith Urban.

His genre-breaking sounds have changed popular music. He takes pride in his success at staying ahead of the curve with his originality and experimentation.

Aside from just performing, Timbaland will also be helping to mentor local producers, and will be hosting a master class with top local talent.

The Grammy-award winning beat maker will also collaborate to launch a music portal that will release five songs – four local tracks and one international – each week.

It will be the world’s first music portal which will provide the latest in local and international music every week for free phone downloads.
