Cape Town - Walking on the beach in the next few months, don’t be surprised to find a turtle in your path.
Baby loggerheads are washing up on Cape Town’s beaches as the winter weather forces them out of their normal migratory path. These dark-brown turtles are typically 9cm long and weigh around 100g.
The Two Oceans Aquarium is urging people to bring stranded baby turtles to the aquarium to be treated for conditions like dehydration and hypothermia, said Helen Lockhart, communications and sustainability manager for Two Oceans.
Two juvenile turtles washed up on Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek beaches two weeks ago. One remains in rehabilitation, while the other died at the aquarium. - Cape Times
