London - The harsh life of a crocodile hunter was famously depicted in the 1986 film Crocodile Dundee. But it seems the big-screen exploits of its star Paul Hogan pale in comparison to those of real life huntsman.

Australian crocodile killer Mick Pitman has destroyed more than 20 000 of the reptiles during his 37-year career. And he recently made his biggest ever catch in the form of a 15ft animal that was attacking cattle in the country’s Northern Territory .

Mr Pitman – who shares his first name with Hollywood counterpart Mick Dundee – spent four weeks stalking the predator before spotting it on the bank of a nearby waterway.

Two gun shots to the neck were all it took to dispatch the animal, which had been dragging off two cows a day. “I waited for my opportunity,” the 57-year-old said. ‘If you’re going to shoot something, do it right.”
