Apple plans to power its main US data center entirely with renewable energy by the end of this year.
Apple dethroned Google as the company with the most respected image in the eyes of consumers, according to Harris Interactive study results.
The maker of iPhones, iPads, iPods and Macintosh computers got the highest score ever seen in the annual Harris Poll RQ study, which asks people to rate the reputations of 60 of the most well-known US companies.
“Apple's current dominance is built on strong investments in its brand, predominately through its products and services,” the authors said in summary.
“Despite today's challenging environment, Apple records the highest score in the RQ's history.”
Of six categories measured, California-based Apple ranked top in financial performance, products & services, vision & leadership, and workplace environment.
Google, which had the highest reputation score in the study last year, was nudged to second place despite “an excellent score.”
“We are seeing the emergence of a group of companies that garner reputation equity by being positively associated with multiple industries,” said Harris Interactive executive vice president Robert Fronk.
“Companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon.com combine innovation and leadership across multiple business areas, giving them true competitive advantage.”
Online retail titan amazon.com scored highest in the study's “emotional appeal” category while grocery chain Whole Foods led the “social responsibility category.” - AFP

If the poll was taken today, Google would fall further behind. They've been getting horrible press due to their change in privacy policy and the idiot move with Safari - where they bypassed users privacy settings. Apple's bad news, the workplace conditions in China, has been largely discounted by the public. Google is now being hauled before congress due to concerns about user privacy. While most tech folks think the concerns are inane - after all, they're not using the data to spy but rather provide services which are core to their value. The fear surrounding Google is going to hurt the company, even if it is irrational because Google gains virtually all their revenue from targeted advertising. Any small infringement upon that model will hammer Google hard.

These comments are true. Apple really isn't a company to be trusted. Google on the other hand is a company with good intent. "Don't be evil" is their motto. They change the world a lot more than apple does. And they bring free and important services to us regular guys. I'd say Google is a far better company..

Hahahah. Anonymous 9:31 and Tbone are such haters! For what?? Most countries dont even get Apple marketing yet they still buy the products. Why, because they are well designed, they work, and there strict structure ensures people dont mess up the functionality. If there were as bad as u make out, they would not be bigger than google and microsoft combined. Go peddle your conspiracy theory somewhere else.

This shows you how much people believe in marketing. Apple products are: 1) made by compromising basic human rights 2) are much more expensive that similar featured items 3) have less functionality than competing operating systems 4) restrict the users experience and sharing of data because they lock the user into the iPrison 5) They have hardly invented anything, they only claimed on paper that they have and the sue anybody that uses the ideas that are common sense, thereby limiting any new ideas and technology just for greed 5) the "cool" Steve Jobs has not given one dollar or his incredible wealth to charity. Think again before buying Apple because there is a big worm inside!
