London - Apple has brought forward the release of its latest phone in an effort to outdo rivals such as Nokia, which revealed its latest smartphone on Wednesday

The company has begun sending out invitations for an event on September 12 when it is expected to unveil the iPhone 5. Industry sources confirmed that the product will hit the shops as early as September 20.

The new device, which Apple is relying on to overtake the fast-selling Samsung Galaxy S3, had been expected later in autumn.
