Cape Town - Nintendo’s Wii U, an HD version of the monstrously popular Wii, launched on Monday.
With the launch of the Wii U, priced at either US$300 (about R2 700) or US$350 for the Deluxe package, Nintendo officially enters the world of sparkly graphics with a console capable of 1080p HD.
The Wii U launches alongside 22 games and a day one software update, that gives users access to not only its online capabilities, but to Nintendo TVii. The main draw of the Wii U outside of the 1080p graphics? Nintendo’s new touch-screen controller, the Wii U GamePad.

TVii, in conjunction with the new touchpad controller creates a TiVo like experience for gamers, as Nintendo can now deliver video, music and more through this digital hub.
The downside? TVii will only work from December, says Nintendo. And then, only in the US or Canada.
It’s all about the games and now that the Wii U can pump out full-HD graphics, most of the top titles for Xbox and PS3 have made it to Nintendo’s baby.
Games include: Assassins Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Mass Effect 3 and New Super Mario Bros.
One of the few original games launched today is Zombi U, a spin on Resident Evil that shows more creativity and gumption than half the launch titles for the Wii U.
The Wii U launches next in Europe and Australia, 30 November and makes its way back home to Japan 8 December. - Gearburn.com
