Lunar New Year may jam cellphone networks

Beijing - Chinese cellphone users are expected to send 10 billion SMS greetings during the seven-day Lunar New Year holiday that began on Thursday, Xinhua news agency said.

"At present, sending short messages has become a convenient means of communication for mobile phone users in China," the agency said on Friday.

At the end of 2003, China had 260 million cellphone users.

"And the number is still increasing fast," Xinhua said.
