Johannesburg - Oscar Pistorius bagged his second medal on the final day of the African Athletics Championships in Benin on Sunday.
The double amputee, who finished second in the individual men's 400m on Friday, bagged another silver medal as part of the 4x400m relay team, which clocked three minutes, 4.01 seconds (3:04.01) to finish 1.62 seconds behind Nigeria in the last event of the championships.
Pistorius was joined by PC Beneke, Ofentse Mogawane and individual bronze medallist Willie de Beer who edged Kenya's Mark Mutai on the line in the final leg.
The Blade Runner missed the 400m Olympic qualifying standard by 0.22 seconds on Friday, a day before the deadline closed for South African athletes hoping to compete at the London Games.
He is, however, likely to compete in the English capital as part of the relay quartet, provided South Africa sends a 4x400m squad. The final Olympic team is expected to be announced on Thursday.
South Africa finished third in the medals table in Benin, behind Kenya and Nigeria, with six gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals, according to Athletics SA officials.
Sprinter Simon Magakwe led the South African charge, winning two gold medals in the men's 100m final and the 4x100m relay.
Andre Olivier, who secured bronze in the men's 800m final in 1:45.09, also shone in his event, booking his place in the country's Olympic team. - Sapa
