Potchefstroom - Foreign athletes dominated the second and final day of the SA Open Athletics Championships in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Melissa Hewitt was the best of the South Africans, adding the women's 200m title to the 100m gold medal she won on Friday's opening day.
Hewitt clocked 23.70 seconds in the half-lap final, crossing the line nearly a full second clear of silver medallist Shanice Marnce, who had earned bronze in the 100m discipline.
Wenda Nel, who clocked a stunning time of 54.92 to win the national 400m hurdles title in Pretoria last month, continued her impressive form by smashing her personal best to secure victory the women's flat 400m event.
Nel finished in 52.53, improving her career record by more than half a second.
On the men's side, Isaac Makwala of Botswana stormed round the newly laid track at the Puk McArthur Stadium to win the men's 400m final in 44.92, climbing to sixth place in the 2014 world rankings.
Olympic semi-finalist Kurt Couto of Mozambique comfortably won the men's 400m hurdles crown in 49.56 seconds, climbing into the top 20 in the world ratings list.
Namibian sprinter Jesse Uri-Khob smashed his personal best by 0.77 seconds to secure victory in the men's 200m final in 20.87
