Moscow – Russia's pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva returned to competition in style at the Russian Winter indoor meeting winning the event, landing a season's best result of 4.81m here on Sunday.
Isinbayeva needed to execute only one attempt at 4.61m to win the competition and gain sweet revenge over Poland's Anna Rogovska, who defeated her at the world championships in Berlin and Doha.
Later Isinbayeva, who has set and incredible 27 world records - 15 outdoor and 12 indoor - during her career so far, also cleared 4.81 on the first attempt to eliminate any doubts in her supremacy in the pole vault sector.
But she was unable to clear attempts at 4.91.
“I am very excited to return to competition!” said the two-time Olympic champion and world record holder, coming back after a competitive break of almost a year. “I missed it so much! And I also missed that feeling of adrenalin in my blood.
“I was set to win this event and I'm very glad I managed to do it at home in front of my supporters and my parents, whe attended the event,” she added, while also targeting some new world marks.
“Speaking about new records, I'm set to refresh the list of pole valt records this season,” she insisted.
Fellow Russian pole vaulter Svetlana Feofanova finished second with a result of 4.56, while Aleksandra Kiryashova was third with the same result.
Last season's European leader Petr Svoboda of Czech Republic was in a class of his own at 60m hurdles winning with a result of 7.58sec. Danielle Carruthers of the United States won the women's equivalent event with 7.94sec result.
Meanwhile, Kenia's Jackson Kivuna won the men's 600, clocking 1min 15.69sec.
Ruddy Zand Milama of Gabon won the women's 60m sprint clocking 7.15sec ahead of America's Mikele Barber, who timed 7.22.
US sprinter Joshua Norman and Kim Collins of Saint Kitts and Nevis showed the same time 6.60sec at 60m distance. The referees announced Norman the winner of the event.
Russia's Ivan Ukhov won high jump in clearing 2.34m - this season's second best showing. –Sapa-AFP
