Johannesburg – All three of South Africa's entrants produced disappointing performances in the second leg of the Diamond League athletics series in Shanghai, China, on Saturday.

Former Olympic silver medallist Khotso Mokoena finished seventh in the men's long jump, with a first-round leap of 7.74 metres.

Mokoena's best jump was more than half a metre short of Jinzhe Li's 8.34m winning leap.

National record holder Lehann Fourie, who reached the final at the London Olympic Games, was eighth in the men's 110m hurdles race in 18.82 seconds.

Fourie, struggling to overcome a leg injury, was well off the pace, crossing the line 0.59 seconds behind American Jason Richardson, who won in 13.23.

Robert Oosthuizen, a former world championships finalist, failed to make the eight-man cut in the men's javelin throw with a second-round heave of 74.62m.

Finland's Tero Pitkamaki won with a 87.60m effort Ä the furthest throw in the world this year. – Sapa
