London - Extending his elegant stride on the community track outside the Olympic Stadium on Thursday morning - then aiming his lightning-bolt fury at drugs cheats on Thursday afternoon - the greatest sprinter in history made his mark in London once again.

Usain Bolt is back to fitness and keen to show he is the man to beat once again in Rio. But before competing at the Muller Anniversary Games on Friday, Bolt praised athletics’ rulers for their decision to kick Russia’s athletes out of the Olympic Games. ‘This will scare a lot of people,’ he said.

‘If you’re cheating, I always feel like it’s a good message to show that if you cheat or you go against the rules then we’re going to take serious action.’

Bolt spoke on the day the bid by Russia’s athletics squad to be reinstated for the Rio Games was rejected.
