New York - Heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman said he does not stand much of a chance to defend his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation crowns in China on August 5.

The 28-year-old American defeated Britain's Lennox Lewis on April 21 in South Africa to capture the WBC and IBF belts and is set to defend them against Nigeria's David Izon.

"It doesn't look like that fight against Izon is going to happen," Rahman said in Wednesday's edition of the Baltimore Sun. "Maybe I might have to fight Lennox Lewis next."

He refused to grant the Lewis an immediate rematch set for August 18 as stipulated in the original clause of the contract. Lewis is suing Rahman to force the American to honor the rematch.

Rahman and Lewis testified Monday at a hearing in US District Court in Manhattan. The trial will resume Monday. - Sapa-AFP
