Johannesburg – The Knights coasted to a five wicket win over the Cobras in their domestic four day match in Kimberley, on Sunday.

After bowling the Cobras out for 92 in their second innings on day three, the Knights set about chasing down the paltry target of 110 to win.

The weather, however, did not co-operate at the start of the day, as play was delayed due to a wet outfield.

When play resumed, the Knights were sailing to victory with one wicket down for 53, but experienced a middle order stutter as they fell to 85 for five.

Rudi Second (19) and Werner Coetsee (10) provided the finishing touches as the Knights made it over the line.

Rory Kleinveldt was the pick of the Cobras bowlers with 2/31 in 9.3 overs.

In Port Elizabeth, the Warriors beat the Lions by 174 runs.

Set an unlikely 468 to win, the Lions resumed on an overnight score of 69 for one with the intention of batting out the day for a draw.

With one wicket down for 102, it seemed the visitors were well set to deny the Warriors a win. However, the Lions lost five wickets for 13 runs to fall to 115 for six.

Even a seventh wicket stand of 78 between Devon Conway (38) and Cliffe Deacon (96) was not enough to save the match. Conway was out lbw to Colin Ackermann, and a procession of wickets ensued.

Deacon, though, was resolute in a defiant knock ending unbeaten four short of his century.

Andrew Birch was again the pick of the Warriors attack with 4/83 to end with match figures of 9/108. – Sapa
