Centurion - An innings of 91 from Loots Bosman helped the Knights to an eight-run victory over the Titans in their Ram Slam T20 Challenge match in Centurion on Wednesday night.
Set a formidable target of 197, the Titans started off badly, losing the wicket of Henry Davids off the first ball.
They continued to lose wickets at regular intervals until a sixth-wicket stand of 96, off 55 balls, between Roelof van der Merwe and Albie Morkel, gave them a real chance of winning the match.
Disaster struck in the 17th over when Van der Merwe was run out, on 66, and Morkel was caught off the next delivery.
Requiring 18 off the last over, Alfonso Thomas and Marchant de Lange were unable to get their team across the line.
Knights’ captain Johan van der Wath was stretchered off after injuring in knee in the field and was unable to bowl his final overs after a fine initial spell of two for 13 off his first two overs.
An opening stand of 92 between Rilee Rossouw and Bosman set the foundation for the Knights.
Sent into bat by their hosts, the pair faced 64 balls, smashing six fours and four sixes before David Wiese made the breakthrough.
After dropping Rossouw when he was on four, Wiese castled him but not before he had scored 48 runs off 34 deliveries.
Opening the batting, Bosman went on to score 91 off 57 deliveries and, together with Piet van Biljon, added 78 runs from 38 balls.
Thomas, who went for 44 runs, took his only wicket of the match when he bowled Bosman off the second last ball of the match.
The Knights moved into second position on the table with their third win of the tournament and are still four points behind the Lions, who top the log. - Sapa
