Johannesburg – The Cape Cobras, the Knights and the Highveld Lions were all firmly in control after the second day of their respective Sunfoil Series matches on Friday.
The Cobras romped to a 269-run lead over the Titans in Cape Town, with four of their top-order batsmen scoring half-centuries or more.
Having resumed their first innings in the morning on 132 without loss, Andrew Puttick made 126 in a 169-run opening stand with Alistair Gray, who fell for 84 in the 11th over of the day.
Puttick was next to go, in the second session, when CJ de Villiers had him caught behind, with Stiaan van Zyl, who hit 91, and Qaasim Adams, who contributed 66, building on their momentum of the openers had departed.
The Cobras declared their first innings at 476/8 and at stumps, the Titans were already in trouble at 15 for two in their second innings.
The Knights, meanwhile, anchored by Johan van der Wath who smashed a career best 154, led by 244 runs against the Dolphins in Bloemfontein.
Van der Wath made his third career century and was well supported by fellow all-rounder Werner Coetsee, who hit 69 runs as they reached 465/9 when stumps were drawn.
Kyle Abbott put up a fight with the ball, spearheading the Dolphins attack as he took 4/103 off 31 overs.
In Johannesburg, the Lions were in trouble against the Warriors at the half way stage. Despite carrying an 80 run lead from their first innings, they closed day two on 35 for five in their second innings.
Adding to his four wickets in the first innings, 23-year-old Aya Gqamane struck again in the afternoon, taking three wickets in three overs, conceding only eight runs. – Sapa
