The Titans took full advantage of a benign Newlands deck to post 400 and thrash the Cape Cobras by 158 runs in the Momentum One-Day Cup on Friday night.
Titans openers Jonathan Vandiar (153) and Henry Davids (163) both posted centuries in a mammoth first-wicket stand of 313 in just 41.3 overs.
The Cobras broke the deadlock when Davids was bowled by Lizaad Williams for 163 (132 balls, 14x4, 5x6), which was just three runs short of his career-best score in List A cricket and his seventh hundred in this format.
Vandiar, though, did produce his highest score of 153 (124 balls, 15x4, 5x6) before he also succumbed to Williams (4/74 in 10 overs).
But the Titans’ 400/5 in their 50 overs was always going to be too much for the Cobras, who battled from the start and were reduced to 43/3 in the eighth over.
Only Omphile Ramela with 63 (67 balls, 4x4) and wicket-keeper Dane Vilas’ quick-fire 88 off 60 balls (9x4, 1x6) provided any resistance as the home side crumbled to 242 all out in 34.5 overs.
Titans leg-spinner Shaun von Berg was the chief destroyer, claiming 4/65 in 10 overs, while Proteas paceman Morné Morkel took 2/52 in 8.5 overs.
