Johannesburg – The Dolphins were poised for victory at close of play on the second day of their Sunfoil series cricket match against the Warriors at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.
After dismissing the visitors for 92 in their first innings, the Dolphins replied with 245. Khaye Zondo was the top scorer, with 51, including five fours and a six.
Kyle Abbott took 4/57 and Craig Alexander 3/52 as the Warriors were bowled out for 198 in their second innings.
Colin Ingram battled for more than three hours to keep the Dolphins at bay, but when he top-edged a short delivery from Alexander to Zondo at deep square leg, the Warriors' fight was all but over.
Ingram faced 108 balls for his 60, which included seven fours and a six.
Alexander castled Gurshwin Rabie with a Yorker with the last ball of the day, to leave the Dolphins needing just 46 runs to claim victory on Saturday.
At Willowmoore Park in Benoni, the Cape Cobras were in a good position in their match against the Titans.
The Cobras resumed play on their overnight score of 109/1, and Stiaan van Zyl scored his 10th first-class century, making 123 off 203 deliveries before he was caught and bowled by Roelof van der Merwe.
Justin Kemp made his 32nd first class 50 before he was bowled by Rowan Richards for 73, including eight fours and three massive sixes.
The Cobras ended their first innings on 373, for a first innings lead of 169.
Farhaan Behardien was the most successful Titans bowler, taking 3/57, while Richards, Juan de Villiers and Van der Merwe took two each.
At close of play, the Titans were 65/2, still trailing the visitors by 114 runs.
The Knights appeared to be in complete control of their match against the Lions at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley, although the Lions needed only five overs and two balls to wrap up the Knights first innings on Friday morning.
The Knights were all out for 348, with Rilee Rossouw making 80 and Werner Coetsee 78.
The Lions could manage only 219 in reply, with veteran Neil McKenzie top-scoring with 40.
Discarded Protea Imran Tahir fought a brave rearguard action, contributing 36 as he shared a last wicket stand of 41 with Chris Morris.
Johan van der Wath, who took 3/55, and Malusi Siboto, with three for 54, led the Knights' charge.
