Durban – The opening match of the T20 Challenge between the Dolphins and Titans was abandoned due to persistent rain in Durban on Friday night.

There was heavy cloud cover over the city throughout the day with some on-off drizzle, but it began to sweep over Kingsmead just before the toss time and never cleared, leaving umpires Karl Hurter and Brian Jerling little choice but to call off proceedings at 7.45pm.

Last season six out of the Dolphins’ 12 matches were rain affected, including five no results, while three home One day Cup matches during this campaign were also abandoned.

The two sides take two points each, with defending champions the Titans next playing the Highveld Lions in Johannesburg on Wednesday. –S apa
