Knights' cricket coach Sarel Cilliers has included stalwart Dean Elgar in his squad for the local Twenty20 competition.

Elgar was plaqued by a nasty knee injury that kept him out of the SuperSport series and, although he will probally not feature in the Knights' first game against the Cobras on Friday in Kimberley, it will not be long before the left hander comes in to play.

Ryan Bailey lost his place in the four-day side, but has an opportunity to redeem himself after Cilliers also included him in his 20-over squad.

Key batsmen Ryan McLaren, who has lost his CSA contract, could play a vital role after his second-innings 90 in the Knights' victory over the Warriors last weekend.

The Knights squad is: Morné van Wyk (c), Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Ryan Bailey, Obus Pienaar, Michael Erlank, Malusi Siboto, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Aubrey Swanepoel, Werner Coetsee, Johan van der Wath, Quinton Friend, Jandré Coetzee, Ryan McLaren, Dean Elgar, Dillon du Preez – Sapa
