Johannesburg - Tony Irish has been appointed executive chairman of the Federation of International Cricketers' Association (Fica), Cricket SA announced on Saturday.

Irish succeeds Paul Marsh, who resigned.

The current chief executive of the South African Cricketers' Association (Saca), Irish, will continue to operate in this capacity alongside his new role.

“Congratulations to Tony on his appointment as Head of Fica,” CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.

“CSA presently enjoys a constructive working relationship with Saca and I am pleased that he will continue to lead Saca in addition to taking on his new global responsibilities.”

Lorgat said the challenges facing players globally were particularly demanding, but Irish would be well-suited to the job. - Sapa
