Johannesburg – The Highveld Lions secured top spot in the One-Day Cup standings and booked themselves a home final after their match against the Knights was abandoned without a ball bowled in Kimberley on Wednesday.

Kimberley was buffeted by a thunder shower and the umpires eventually called the contest off two hours and 45 minutes after the scheduled start because of the persistent rain.

The no-result saw both teams pick up two points, with the Lions ending the group stage of the competition on 30 points after five wins, two losses and three no-results from their 10 matches.

The Johannesburg side will host the final at the Wanderers on December 14.

The Knights, meanwhile, also endured three no-results as they ended on 20 log points after winning just three of their 10 games.

The abandoned match ended the Knights' slim chances of making Sunday's playoff match as they had needed to win the contest and hope that other results went their way. – Sapa
