Lions out to cement top spotComment on this story
Johanneburg – The Highveld Lions will look to cement their place at the top of the One-Day Cup table when they host the Warriors at the Wanderers on Sunday.
Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana said they would avoid complacency despite the side leading the log by a four-point margin.
“There are no easy games in this competition and it is not for us to underestimate anyone,” said Toyana.
“It could just take anyone of Prince, Jon-Jon or Davy Jacobs to have a great knock and take the game away from us, and then our backs will be against the wall.”
The domestic one-day competition moves into the final week of round robin matches.
Toyana said his side would focus on the basics to ensure they finish in top spot.
A victory for the Lions might secure them an automatic home final, provided the Knights overcome the Cape Cobras in Bloemfontein on the same day.
The coach said his side's good run of form to date was due to the all-round performances of the players.
“Stephen Cook and Gulam Bodi have been good for us up front in the first 15 overs but Viljoen and Morris have been unbelievable with the new ball,” he said.
“We have tried to bowl those four-day lengths and it has been very successful for us.” – Sapa
