Johannesbnurg – The Warriors take on the Cape Cobras in a top-of-the table clash starting on Thursday in East London and, after their last meeting went down to the wire with the Western Cape franchise just edging out the men from the Eastern Cape in Paarl.
Home skipper Davy Jacobs is expecting an enticing contest with both sides playing good cricket.
The Warriors have lost just one match and that was against the Cobras while the Western Cape side are still unbeaten in the competition.
“I'm expecting it to be a good, tough contest. Both sides are in good form. Top of the table clashes are always good and this will be no different, we're looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Jacobs said.
The match the Warriors lost was a tense affair with the home side squeezing out an 18-run win on the final day and Jacobs says it's these kinds of crunch situation the team want to fix.
They showed their mettle in last match when they beat the Highveld Lions by 10 wickets, after bowling them out for 59 in the second innings.
“We probably should have won in Paarl, that's an area we want to fix. When we came from the break we said if we can win two out of our next three matches, we'll be in a good position. We've won the first game, so it's a good opportunity for us to carry on the momentum,” the skipper said.
Jacobs, who returned to cricket after a two-year injury break at the start of the season, is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition with 425 runs in four matches at an average of 60.71, including two hundreds and two fifties.
He has been leading from the front and Jacobs is very pleased to be back in action after a lengthy time away from the game.
“I'm just so happy to be playing cricket again. When you're away from the game for that long you sometimes get worried that you might have unlearned certain things. I was quite nervous at the start of the season, but it's good to be back and it's good to be scoring runs,” said Jacobs. – Sapa
