The lucrative and glittering Indian Premier League could be heading for South Africa for a second time in five years.

The 2009 edition was staged here after the IPL officials were told there would be no guarantee for the safety of players in India as the tournament clashed with the general elections in that country.

The event, to be staged during April, is likely to again clash with the 2014 Indian general elections – date to be announced – but it is expected fall during the tournament. Officials and the government may, once again, not be able to guarantee top players from around the world the security they deserve during the eight-week tournament.

The dates for the eight-team tournament will be from April 9-June 3. IPL officials, who met in Bangalore early today, announced that they will meet officials of the Indian home ministry next week to work out details and try to reach a final decision. - Daily News
