AB de Villiers scored the fasted Test century by a South African taking just 75 balls to reach the landmark as a dejected Indian side left the field for lunch on day three of the first test at Centurion on Saturday.

De Villiers' splendid innings overshadowed Jacques Kallis' unbeaten 150, off 210 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes.

South Africa went into lunch on 591 for three, a lead of 455

with Kallis on 182 not out and De Villiers on 119.

Hashim Amla and Kallis were both on unbeaten centuries when South Africa resumed their innings on 366/2 in the morning.

The wickets to fall previously were those of captain Graeme Smith (62) and Alviro Petersen (77) while India were bowled out for a paltry 136.

The pair shared a third wicket stand of 230 runs (23 fours and three sixes) before Amla, scoring his fourth consecutive Test century, was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 140. Ishant Sharma struck it lucky when he bowled down the leg side and Amla tried to flick it fine but got a touch to it and Dhoni did the rest.

De Villiers joined Kallis at the crease and got off to a flying start, his first 50 coming off 42 balls and his second off just 33

balls.

Not to take anything away from the splendid batting by the South Africans, the Indian bowling attack was poor and they have no where else to turn. – Sapa
