Abbott added to Proteas T20 squadComment on this story
Johannesburg – Dolphin's seamer Kyle Abbott, has been added to the Twenty20 squad to play against Australia in the three-match series starting at St George's in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
Dale Steyn strained his hamstring during the third Test at Newlands earlier in this week and is likely to miss the first two matches while he recovers.
“A grade one hamstring strain would usually take between 7-10 days to recover, so Dale is unlikely to be available for the first two matches in Port Elizabeth and Durban,” Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.
“At this stage, we are hopeful that he will be available for the ICC World Twenty20 and will work towards having him ready for the final T20 against Australia in Centurion.”
Wayne Parnell and Beuran Hendricks will undergo fitness tests on Saturday to determine their availability for the opening match of the series.
Parnell sustained a strain to his right groin during the second Test against Australia, while Hendricks is recovering from a side strain sustained during a Cape Cobras game.
The T20 squad will gather for a two-day camp before beginning with their preparations for the series on Saturday. – Sapa
