Johannesburg – Dolphin's seamer, Kyle Abbott, has been called up to the Proteas' Test squad for the third Test against Australia, in place of Wayne Parnell who suffered a groin injury during the second Test on Saturday.

Abbott comes into the squad as bowling cover for Parnell, while Quinton de Kock remained in the squad as the extra batting option cover.

Parnell had bowled three balls in the 40th over on day three of the Test in St George's Park, Port Elizabeth, and when attempting to bowl the fourth, pulled up in his run up.

After consultation with captain Graeme Smith, Parnell went off the field.

South Africa won the second Test on Sunday by 231 runs as they squared the series 1-1.

The third Test would start at Newlands, in Cape Town, on Saturday.

Ryan McLaren would make a return to the squad for the third Test after recovering from the mild concussion he sustained during the first Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
