Johannesburg - Proteas batsman Hashim Amla has been ruled out of the second one-day international against New Zealand at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Tuesday.

Amla sustained a strain to his right quad muscle during practice on Monday afternoon, which flared up overnight.

“Hashim sustained the strain in his right quad during warm-ups on yesterday [Monday] afternoon but continued training without much hindrance,” Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

“He woke up this morning (Tuesday) with a severely stiff quad muscle and has been withdrawn from the playing XI.”

“We will only be able to make a call on his availability for the final game after more assessment in the next few days.”
