Cape Town – Australia declared their first innings on their overnight score of 494 for seven, on day three of the third Test against South Africa at Newlands, in Cape Town, on Monday.

Australian captain Michael Clarke was unbeaten on 161 (301 balls, 17 fours), and sent the Proteas in to bat amid overcast conditions.

David Warner was the other centurion for the visitors with 135(152 balls, 12 fours, one six).

Rain cut short the Australian innings, halting play before tea on Sunday.

South Africa's spinner JP Duminy returned career best figures of 4/73 off 17 overs. – Sapa
