South Africa's Mark Boucher became the first cricketer to take 500 Test catches during the opening session of the first Test against Australia at Newlands on Wednesday.
His 500th dismissal was that of Phillip Hughes who was caught behind off the bowling of Test debutant Vernon Philander.
Two of Boucher's catches behind the stumps came against Australia when he represented the ICC World XI in October 2005 and the remaining 498 were for his country.
Playing in his 140th Test, Boucher made his debut in 1997
against Pakistan and played 75 consecutive Tests before being dropped for the tour to India in 2004.
It was not long before he was back in the side, facing England, at home, in January 2005 and his renewed vigour has extended his career and helped him earn the accolade. – Sapa

Anonymous at 2.25pm, great thinking. No wonder our sport gets nowhere. Don't pick the best, just give someone else, no matter for what reason a chance. Think about doing well for a change.

I am no fan of Bouch, but, he is a good keeper and a bit of a bull terrier when in a tight position and possibly has more to offer...BUT...Smith NEEDS TO GO!!!
