Durban - AB de Villiers became the quickest player to score 8000 One Day International runs in his side’s match against New Zealand at Kingsmead, in Durban, on Wednesday.
The Proteas batsman achieved the feat in his 190th ODI in the third match of the series against his Kiwi opponents. De Villiers took 18 fewer ODIs to reach the milestone than number two on the list - Sourav Ganguly of India.
Coming into the match the Proteas captain had scored 7981 runs in the format at an average of 53.20. He also boasts the fastest ODI century when he reached the mark off 31 balls against the West Indies at the Wanderers in January.
