Galle – Dean Elgar’s impressive second Test ton helped SA to 194 for one at tea on the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday.

The left-handed Elgar reached the interval on 102 not out, and reached his ton off 162 balls. He lifted off-spinner Dilruwan Perera over his head for six to reach the mark in style.

Faf du Plessis is on 57 not out, meanwhile, having reached his half-century off 113 balls. The pair have added 124 runs for the second wicket so far, and will continue building on their impressive start after the break.

The only wicket of the day so far fell when Alviro Petersen was trapped in front by Dilruwan Perera for 34, after an opening stand of 70. The Sri Lankans used spin as early as the seventh over of the day, with Rangana Herath brought into the attack.
