Uncapped seam bowler Rory Kleinveldt will miss the rest of the ODI series against Sri Lanka after picking up a leg injury.
Cricket SA said in a statement on Friday that Kleinveldt had torn his left quadricep muscle and he would be out of action for up to six weeks.
A decision on a replacement in the 14-man squad would be made after the second ODI in East London on Saturday.
“It is an unfortunate setback for Rory,” said Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee.
“He joined the squad with a reported strained quadricep muscle after a Supersport Series match for the Cape Cobras.
“Upon further inspection an ultra-sound scan detected a tear, which the medical team did not want to aggravate.”
Kleinveldt did not play in the first ODI in Paarl, which South Africa won by 258 runs to take an early 1-0 lead in the five-match series. – Sapa
