Johannesburg – Cricket South Africa (CSA) will bow to pressure from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and send their newly-appointed chief executive Haroon Lorgat on a long leave to further talks about India’s tour to South Africa this season, www.cricinfo.com are reporting.

The BCCI and CSA have been locked in a spat about India’s proposed tour to South Africa at the end of the year, which was announced and then effectively shortened because of the BCCI’s alleged unhappiness over CSA’s decision to appoint Lorgat to their top job.

The BCCI refused to finger Lorgat as the thorn in their side, instead saying that the tour schedule was released without proper consultation. But sources maintained that the BCCI’s problems stemmed from Lorgat’s appointment.

This seemed to be confirmed when earlier this month the BCCI invited CSA President Chris Nenzani for talks, excluding Lorgat from the consultation process.

The BCCI’s alleged unhappiness with Lorgat goes back to his time as the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC), where he played hard-ball with cricket’s superpower.

But CSA have been rendered powerless since appointing Lorgat, and have reportedly now come to a compromise with the BCCI.

Cricinfo report that Lorgat will be sent on an extended leave, while other parties engage the BCCI on the possible tour. Lorgat will also be kept from dealing with the BCCI in future. – IOL
