While the Proteas bask in the aftermath of a demolition job in Saturday's third one-day international against New Zealand, the hosts have some issues to sort out. Their biggest one, especially in light of their dismal showing in the third one-dayer, is their batting.

They were rolled over for just 112 by South Africa's multi-faceted attack in Wellington.

The manner of some of the dismissals suggested that the Kiwi order were battling to live with the likes of Kagiso Rabada in particular, and an urgent SOS has been sent to the experienced Martin Guptill.

The destructive right-hander has been out with hamstrung injuries, but he has sufficiently recovered just in time for the fourth match of the five-match series.

If the Black Caps are to maintain an interest in the series, the fourth ODI in Hamilton is a must-win.

The last time the Kiwis lost a bilateral series at home was in 2014, when the very same Proteas did the business.

For the Proteas, an early wrap of yet another series victory will allow them to rotate their squad once more, and rest key mem like Rabada for the looming Test series.

For the Black Caps, however, the concerns are far more immediate. Guptill is expected to shore up the top order, and provide the spark that will keep the series alive.

There is also a recall for off-spinner Jeetan Patel, who may be seen as an option against the Proteas' rash of left-handed batsmen.
