Durban – AB de Villiers won the toss for the Proteas and chose to bat first against West Indies in the opening match of their One-Day International series at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.
The clash is the first of a five-game series between the two countries as they wind down preparations for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starting next month.
The Proteas have been boosted by the return of captain De Villiers, together with Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander after having been rested for the T20 International series which South Africa lost 2-1.
West Indies, who have not beaten the Proteas in their 13
previous ODI meetings dating back to 2006, have a new captain at the helm in the form of all-rounder Jason Holder.
They are also boosted by the inclusion of the mercurial Chris Gayle after he was rested in the final T20 match on Wednesday.
