South Africa edged out the Netherlands by six runs in their group one super-10 stage match of the World Twenty20 in Chittagong on Thursday.

South Africa, sent in to bat, were restricted to 145-9 in their 20 overs before the Netherlands managed 139 in their 18.4 overs.

Imran Tahir finished with 4-21.

For the Netherlands paceman Ahsan Malik recorded the best Twenty20 bowling figures by a Dutchman of 5-19 to restrict South Africa to a below-par 145-9 in their 20 overs.

Hashim Amla top-scored with 43 while skipper Faf du Plessis made 24 and AB de Villiers 21.

Stephan Myburgh scored 51 for the Netherlands.

England play Sri Lanka in the next game later Thursday.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals to be played on April 3 and 4.

The final will be played in Dhaka on April 6. – AFP
