Port Elizabeth - South Africa took four wickets in the morning session to leave Australia 205 for eight, at lunch on day three of the second Test at St George's Park, in Port Elizabeth, on Saturday.

It was not all good news for South Africa though, as both Hashim Amla and Wayne Parnelll went off the field with injuries during the session.

Australia were still 218 runs behind South African in the first innings, with Steve Smith not out at the break on 49. Vernon Philander ended the session with figures of 3/52.

David Warner (70) after adding five to his overnight score was out slashing Vernon Philander, caught Graeme Smith at first slip, as Australia lost their fifth with the score on 120.

Warner had been dropped the previous day by AB de Villiers when the batsman was on 43.

Nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (15) soon followed Warner back to the change room.

Lyon played-on, off the bowling of Morne Morkel. Lyon had also been dropped when he was on 12 on Friday by JP Duminy.

The third catch was put down by South Africa in the 37th over. Substitute fielder Robin Peterson (on for Amla, who dislocated his left ring finger as he dropped a half-chance) dropped a regulation catch at square leg as Aussie batsman Steve Smith was on 24.

In the 40th over of the innings, Wayne Parnell was forced to leave the field in the middle of his ninth over with a groin strain. Parnell had bowled three balls when he pulled up in his run up with the injury.

Dale Steyn picked up his first wicket of the innings with the wicket of Brad Haddin for 9. Steyn got the ball to jag back and smashed into the top of middle stump to leave Australia on 168 for seven.

Mitchell Johnson was clean bowled by Duminy for 27, in the over before lunch. - Sapa
