Cape Town – Cricket SA (CSA) and its one-day cricket partner, Momentum, will join hands with the Standard Bank Proteas in paying tribute to the fire fighters of the Western Cape during the fourth Momentum ODI against Sri Lanka at Newlands on Tuesday.

“Our fire fighters provide critical services to the public and they have done a wonderful job over the past few months to protect lives, property and our environment. This is often done by placing their own lives at risk,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

“The courage of these men and women is unmistaken when they deal with raging fires and strong winds which can make their job almost impossible at times.

“The ODI game at Newlands provides us with the opportunity to salute their public service and to raise awareness around preventing veld fires. In addition to the damage to properties there has also been untold damage to fynbos which is the natural home of the Protea flower, our national sporting emblem.”

Representatives of the Fire Fighting Community will join hands with the Proteas at the singing of the national anthem and those children who attend the game will be able to enjoy a fire engine display during the innings break (5pm).

In addition, Momentum will be providing hospitality packages for fire fighters.
